Assuming this is usd, you could definately get a Wooting 60HE with that kinda money. Not too sure what shipping costs for those are for other people but if your willing to spend a decent chunk, completely worth the money.

can you just confirm, do I have to solder switches to the board? or can it just plug into the board like a keycap?

Hi,
I only created this account to comment. I would recommend looking into the MonsGeek M1W prebuilt with piano switches. The original MonsGeek M1 is highly praised within the custom keyboard community for being a really good budget entry with a full aluminum build. Stock m1w is already amazing but you can mod if you prefer a different sound profile.

Zellsis also uses an M1 MonsGeek, which you can see in one of the Cloud9 Twitter videos due to its distinctive gold side bezels.

The most important thing for gaming is obviously good latency and 1000Hz, both of which the M1W has. The switches on the piano are very light linear, making it great for gaming. Here is a spreadsheet listing the best latency options. Obviously, the Wooting keyboard is the best, but I personally don't like plastic 60% keyboards since I already have many, so the 75% (like GMMK) is more suitable for me.

I also checked out the DrunkBeer, but as you said, it's a pretty light plastic build and is pretty much inferior to the Wooting, despite being $100 cheaper.
If you are willing to wait, there could be a rapid magnetic switch M1 releasing soon since it's currently in the works. However, based on the previous Akko Mod 007 7th anniversary, their magnetic switch was a disappointment (Akko is the parent company of MonsGeek).

Also don't research too much since I was initially like you but ended up spending way tooo much on expensive switches, keycaps and boards as part of the hobby. Also Keychron Q1 v2 is a expensive as board while offering pretty mid specs for price, m1w clears despite being cheaper. Epomakers is just rebranded craps. M1W is the middle ground for both office work and gaming since it offer great typing experiences (gas mount better than tray mount) (Debatable with piano since I prefer heavy tactile) and gaming experiences (low latency).

Both drunkbeer and wooting is tray mounted plastic build.

that's very generous of you to make a new account to leave a comment and suggest a suitable recommendation with a nice explanation. thank you.

I saw this keyboard maybe on X but thought it was expensive af. but this is definitely at a sweet price point and looks like my interest is directed toward to this.

thanks for all the sources especially the spreadsheet. now I'm starting to dig more into this one. thanks again <3

Yea i recommend first doing a tape mod / lube stabs on your anne pro 2 since that will change the sound profile to a nice pop (its great for plastic board since case is very hollow).

I recommend waiting for like Christmas sales since boards such as Monsgeek, Akko and Keychron tends to do massive sales. For me the monsgeek m1w is cheaper in local stores than buying from official monsgeek website. Some people buy from China directly which they can get it for dirt cheap but its a bit hard to (taobao).

Usually when monsgeek does a new release they give a small discount so yea. Here in OCE /Apac. Monsgeek are pretty reasonable whereas EU its kinda expensive.

you can buy hotswap ones that require no soldering and are very easy to set up :D
one combo that I've tried and liked a lot (and is relatively budget) is the keychron v1 barebones edition with akko cs silver switches, they have a 1mm actuation point(same as wooting he just without rapid trigger or other features).

The only feedback we have is this switch being used in Akko mod007 aniversity edition which was a disappointment. It depends if Monsgeek fixed up all the issue and PCB has no weird errors like last time.

Just wait a few months for new release and reviews

If you're buying rn then get wooting as its best of best but you will have to stick with 60% profile.

  • Wooting is full analog and tachyon option
  • Heard rumors of a new format wooting from discord (rumour)

Drunkdeer is releasing aluminium model soon
Apparently wooting is faster but drunkdeer more consistent

Hey keeb,
Guess what? I'm replying to this with an M1W. Thank you so much for your help.

Did not want to M1 HE in the first place and did not even wait for the 11:11 sale or black Friday sales. That's a bad move from me, but still, I wanted the keyboard ASAP, so I ordered it at the start of this month. I have been enjoying it for about an hour now.

So again, thank you for your awesome support with this. Appreciated.

Yea tape mod if you want a poppy sound but honestly dont need. Plus it makes a mess no matter what tape u use. With monsgeek i prefer stock sound than poppy.

Use those black tape with holes for force break mod if you hear case ping

Or change the stabs if you feel its rattle and lube them.

  • Honestly stock wise its sound good and prob aint worth the hassle opening it. Need be careful with battery and pcb connection wire.
