seriously guys i need your help. i feel like this is the (second) last piece missing of reaching my full potential.
i seriously suck at holding angles, i mean it. i hold angles worse than a bronze player. matter of fact, im so bad in holding angles that i got the bad habit of never holding angles and always being afraid of holding angles, i just resort to other options in which i bait teammates usually

players like s0m, aleksandar, yay, cryo, scream, soulcas in ranked just OBLITERATE players who peek them, its literally a clicking simulator for them

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vCnTS9x4TbI&ab_channel=SisterSage
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pR-aNonvWQQ&ab_channel=fool (1st clip)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDRPbyrvZto&ab_channel=soulcas (quite literally entire video)

https://youtu.be/N4uIXR27SYo?si=vQaHeky1ztDLdh0Q&t=16
just a few clips

if you have any tips PLEASE feel free to share. Thanks

they all just use gamesense to determine how close or wide they should hold you probably just misjudge it

otherwise just do click timing scenarios on aim trainer if you just suck at the actual mechanics of clicking when they slide in

when i hold tight they peek wide
when i hold wide they peek tight

it feels like im never right and its so demoralizing. i would like to know if there is some type of algorithm to find out how wide to hold angles

if the enemy has info on exactly where you are --> hold crosshair out wider for a wide swing

if you both don't have info on each other --> hold crosshair closer b/c most likely the enemy will be taking short steps to clear angles without making noise

thanks this makes sense. i will start to implement this

i just have the fear that the enemy will regardless know where i am and when i hold wide the enemy will "underswing" and kill me before they reach my crosshair

obviously adjusting crosshair is a thing but sometimes they kill me even before that. but know as i think about it i dont think its a reaction time issue, im just not considering peekers advantage and human error

a couple things could be going wrong, but I'm guessing it comes down to a couple things

  1. You're holding predictable angles or making noise getting to the angle (prefired)
  2. You are zoning out holding the angle
  3. Your crosshair placement is wrong/off (too close to the wall or too far from the wall)

Potential Fixes:

  1. Take more weird/off angles and after a kill or miss immediately move to cover, and don't play the same spots repeatedly. Get comfortable playing all angles on the sites you play
  2. Move slightly left and right while holding an angle to stop zoning out
  3. Practice in the practice range in the spike plant mode with the bots holding for swings, you will learn where to put your crosshair for your reaction time to headshot them with minimal movement. If you don't hear movement (running), move your crosshair closer to the wall so you can shoot them since they'll take less space compared to running. It call comes down to where your crosshair is compared to the wall

I also have fear of holding angles that the enemy shoots at me before i shoot them, i have the fear that they will just swing on me and insta kill me, i have the fear that i will choke and then out of stress i will start spraying or whiff my shots, i sometimes feel like i have to shoot quick or the enemy will shoot at me before i shoot, and therefore i neglect the aiming part and just rely on raw aim which is not something you should do in valorant

You need to dispel your fear and just hold the angle. Having confidence is extremely important in this game and thinking you will whiff/spray and die will just make you do so. Hold, stay focused on that task, and visualize yourself hitting the shot. Imagine if they peek and you just headshot them. Prepare that in your head and make it a reality.

this is valuable af, it really just gave me a big confidence boost. thanks, i will look forward to holding angles more

Another tip is rather than getting tilted that you don't hit a shot, immediately distract yourself by thinking about what you could've done differently instead. It helps a lot with not getting tilted/upset and demoralized. It kinda unlocks your brain and focuses on a task of "what if I did this? would this have worked?" and helps you improve faster

this makes lots of sense. thanks alot, i will look to implement this.

i dont feel like i have a problem with zoning out, more of a problem of how tight im holding the angle. i never felt comfortable holding wide angles because i always felt like the enemies will just peek tight and kill me but i will limittest this more.

It's not just about where you're positioned, it's also about where your crosshair is positioned. You can hold a wide angle or a tight angle, but either way it doesn't matter if your crosshair is off. Focus on playing some off angles and some tight angles, but also make sure to practice with bots holding for wide swings and experiment with exactly where your crosshair needs to be for swings where you can click without adjusting. If you hear running, put your crosshair there, if not, put your crosshair tighter since they will most likely jiggle/walk peek and it's easier to hit your shot like that :)

Ping + don't hold the common angles, i'm prefiring those + check your reaction times + have proper control of your mouse (no shakiness)

Another thing is having the "read", in that 1st clip of Aleksandar he already knows they're coming, he holds an off angle and has proper distancing in his crosshair, he isn't holding that close to the cat entrance but a bit wider to account for player's movement speed

But i will never understand something like this. I would have NEVER hold that angle that wide. When i first saw that clip i was flabbergastered by how wide he held that angle. I thought it was illegal to hold angles like that. In his position i wouldve hold like 20% as wide and missed every bullet lmao

Ah okay, but still good clip regardless. On the topic of zoning out, something i do with helps me is literally dead staring in the center of my monitor. I dont even blink during that time. The way i detect if an enemy is there, is by looking if the background color changes. This tip is especially useful with the operator. Good luck

Hel na if i start staring its joever i try to keep my eyes moving but ig involuntary sometimes i stare at the crosshair and then thats when i zone out

Well how are you missing when you are holding the angle? If you are missing too close, then you’re holding too closely.

How often are you using off angles?

When i hold tight, they peek wide. When i hold wide, they peek tight. It feels like a never ending circle.

How often are you using off angles?

I just have paranoia of holding angles wether it be an on angle, a one and done angle or an off angle
Even if its the craziest off angle of all time i feel like the enemy will predict me for some reason and kill me

Download aimlabs

Play a scenario called “RA HEADCLICK” for 15 minutes

Queue TDM and just anticipate how people are gonna swing you (wide, normal, jiggle) and ONLY focus on this. but this is mostly intuition. Hard to explain

Good luck

ive been implementing TDM in my warmup in the past weeks and the results are fabulous. TDM is 10x better than DM because you can anticipate the enemies and adjust everything instead of relying on raw aim all the time and getting killed from behind

The aimlab task is something to look out for, Thanks alot

Bro live and learn, here's the thing; no two players are the same.

You'll be able to hold some, others will insta kill you, that's why you have to learn to read their playstyle and adapt accordingly.

No 1 method fits all.

Nothing is gonna magically make you better and I'm not near any of these pro players, but I'll give you some more mental and general advice that, when I actively remind myself to follow, work well for me.

REMINDER: I am ascendant 3. Not a very high rank. Keep that in mind if you end up reading these tips.

1) Notice how in most of these clips they are barely counter-strafing when they're actually in a face to face with the enemy. You can strafe while holding to not fall asleep, but as soon as you engage immediately stop moving and focus on your aim (Not a good idea when you're in the open where multiple people can shoot you at once). Also I wouldn't recommend crouching at mid to far range, but you do you because I also crouch instinctively and am guilty of it.

2) If you are consistently able to have crosshair at head level, when holding angles you should try to avoid moving your crosshair as much as you can and wait for the enemy to be in your crosshair. It sounds dumb, but this will prevent over/under flicking as much, allow easier adjusting to the next enemy if they peek, reduce the amount of bullets you use, leading to having better control and it will be another aspect of helping you play more confident. With that...

3) Confidence helps.. a ton! Don't be afraid of dying! It doesn't mean re-peek everything like a lunatic. Have concise/fast decision-making. Whatever you're doing commit to it. When you're holding, if you're worried someone might lurk up on you/you might get shot from a different angle, you can occasionally check it, but do not spaz out between the two. This will destroy your focus and that's how you end up whiffing everything, including util.

4) Most importantly, if you got the rank you are by yourself, or with a duo of similar skill, really no one has any right to be angry at you for playing bad or not winning gun-fights. Listen to your team if they point out your mistakes in a reasonable manner. Do not take what they say to heart and mute if they're unbearable. What matters is, if you want to get better, YOU need to be aware of your performance and what you're doing right or wrong which, sounds like you are :)

There is no easy trick that will make you good at holding angles like this. The way you learn is through repetition and feedback. The fastest way to improve at holding angles is therefore to put yourself in situations where you hold angles as much as possible. This is probably best done by playing TDM since it will provide you with a lot of gunfights that are quite similar to what you would see in a real game. The important thing to keep in mind when doing this though is to really focus on holding angles. What I mean by that is that you shouldn't play the TDM on autopilot and try to win, but rather put yourself in positions to hold angles, even if doing so means that you will get fewer kills or lose.
