mce on yay

He detailed how he had to help yay break some bad habits from spending the previous year playing mainly Chamber for OpTic and how the player wasn’t proficient on other Duelists like Neon and Raze. mCe also said that yay was “his own player” and would put his own spin on set ups that the coaching staff crafted for him. “He’s a very particular player in the way that he wants to play and it can be frustrating to deal with sometimes,” mCe said.

my humble goat not listening?!!!

sounds like mCe is draconian in the way he coaches.

frustrating to deal with but thats the price for having a good player, not just a player that listens to instructions.

You can't win a world championship simply following a formula to perfection; you have to be able to adapt, think for yourself for whatever you can't plan out ahead of time. It may cause headaches at the start, but if you give those players a chance and enough practice to flesh out their ideas then you'll be able to see them truly shine far above their teammates

Obviously, there are times when the idea they're trying to develop ends up leading nowhere (or who would waste too much time trying to perfect it), and it's okay to put your foot down once in a while when it really matters, but you should have faith in your players who have reached the heights they have to be able to grow themselves organically with your overall strategy.

You didn't pick up yay because he fit your vision perfectly, you picked up yay because he's a masters winner and an amazing player with a certain amount of strengths. mCe should've let him find his footing within the overall macro of the game they were trying to play, rather than forcing him to adapt to the playstyle they outlined for him.

mCe is capable of training and drilling players into a good system that works, but coaches like chet or potter who complement rather than dictate their teams strengths are infinitely better for a team that is meant to be a "superteam" of individually-gifted, veteran stars.

at least yay got his ego from some basis in reality unlike mce who's never won shit and who can only produce teams that crumble once properly challenged

maybe those spins on his setups is what helps teams qualify for international LANs and win playoffs and actually win a major.. Maybe next time mCE should listen to player feedback and not recruit dumb kids who follow his instructions and finally fail when it matters

#7

should have used those spins in dsg,and help them qualify to ascension when he had all the freedom in the world

again when did i say he can 1v5 and do whatever he wants to win..? his ex-teammates in Optic have never complained about him not being able to follow instructions. You just wanna bring up DSG as if that somehow disregards his work at Optic

#27

never "disregarded" his work at optic,i simply said he should have helped dsg more if he wants to play more freely,he let his team down too,no structure doesn't make u play as shit as yay did,put demon1 in dsg and i swear he would have played better

#31

thats false, you can have anyone replace yay on that team and they would still have similar results.. plenty of tier 2 matches where demon1's team lost if u wanna dig that up. You just wanna measure his worth on a failing team which is not fair

when the team follows the coach, you follow the teams, its simple. discourse is only going to be healthy if the team can grow from it.

you must have really poor reading comprehension to derive i meant he can 1v9 and win.. his previous coaches or IGLs have never complained about him not being able to follow team instructions. mCE on the other hand seems to be the guy who would rather have players who will follow his instructions like robots and have no intelligence of their own.. what that means is his teams will keep missing to destroy KJ ults in crucial rounds and get reverse sweeped because they have no intelligence or willpower to work on their own..

You know, I am not actually defending mCE as you might assume. Valyn actually had some fair criticism for mCe in the last podcast. If i remember correctly, Valyn had his own issues about certain strats/decisions/comps. He initially held back these concerns, thinking perhaps mCe was right. However, as he evolved both as a person and player, he's become more assertive in voicing his perspectives this year. Reflecting on 2022, Valyn believes he had the right reservations. But at the same time, He said that the way mCe coached The Guard last year was necessary for them to grow to the players they are today. He then concluded that mCe "style" (which is hard hitting) is not fit for "seasoned" professionals who know the basics and fundamentals. On that coaching perspective, I'm with you.

But what i am defending is that yay should not get have his cake and eat it too, he acts like he's the creme of the crop and that is NOT how it worked out for Optic in 2022.

only allegation of yay's behavior has come from mCE so that tells us more about mCE than it does about yay.. until I see multiple other teammates over different teams echo what mCE has to say, i will not believe it. Especially when people like FNS and Chet have not concurred with it.

no one wants a player like yay if he's gonna whine and not listen; even if he's the best player in the world. there's no time for stubborn behaviour, teams are already trialling for next year trying to prepare for the league, and its true - early bird gets the worm.

ah yes the one whining and not listening is the one bringing new ideas and variations on existing strats into the team not the one complaining about someone else

#45

Im not a coach. but I'm certain that all coaches welcome new ideas, but when theres a game plan which the team trusts in, you do not go ahead and change that style when its to just be stubborn.

somehow i missed this but yes you also dont as a coach force players into a system that they are uncomfortable in. to be clear yay probably had a bit of an ego going into c9 but mce also clearly has a giant ego and blows up whenever a player wants to even slightly deviate from his plans

mCe, steel all had the same thing to say about yay. It's not necessarily a bad thing to be commanding and ask for specific things as a duelist but I just love to see how the yay fans are coping 😸
