Leo Faria and Tier 2

The controversy about guest slots or what he specifically has said is braindead but that doesn't mean there isn't any problem:

Leo Faria has made a bunch of tweets about how tier 2 support is coming, it's going to be announced 'soon', about how they are currently in talks for months now
But literally nothing comes out of it, it seems it's just a PR statement and hopefully people will just quietly forget

There is not a single tier 2 off season event officially announced yet, only leaks about pacific
The fact that there isn't leaks for EMEA or Americas means that likely even the tier 2 orgs don't know what there is gonna be for the off season

Right now tier 2 orgs are in limbo and don't know if there is reason to even keep a roster atm

More prize money for tier2 tournaments? That will only benefit a very small number of teams that will eventually compete for next year's tier2 championship. (e.g. Apeks, Acend, M80, etc. this year)
Increase the number of tier2 competitions? Same.

Let RIOT give money directly to tier 2 teams? Just as there is no end to the amount of direct aid to poor countries, tier2 teams must be able to earn money themselves.

The highly uncertain element of tournament prize money doesn't help; there are teams like SEN, 100T, LOUD, and ZETA that have a short history but have done a great job of branding themselves.
They had a huge fan base even before they were chosen as partner teams.

And I think open leagues are rather the opposite element of establishing sustainability that critics cry out for. European soccer leagues are doing well because of broadcasting rights revenue. J-League, Japan's open league for professional soccer, is run at a loss except for a few popular teams, and is covered by local government taxes.

basically the only thing that can help is attract viewers to tier 2 cuz that brings sponsors and they make it sustainable but if riot makes the tier 2 ascension tourney in the middle of a master and the lcq there wont be much attraction to it because who would want to see ascension international rather than wait 1 or 2 weeks for lcq or when they just watched one big masters where there are way better teams which is actually tier 1? and who would want to watch vcl if it happens at the same time as regular league which is supposed to have way more entertaining storylines and players/teams to watch? its better if they wait for champs to end and then they start vcl on "off-season" because no way people wont watch tier 2 looking up for who can replace the franchised players who got kicked out and the team who is joining franchising next year.

Yes, it is. We should be careful about when we hold our conventions. However, if the tier 1 and tier 2 seasons are too far apart, it may be difficult to find scrim opponents. So it might be a good idea to shorten the complete off-season to about 2 months, and parallel the tier1 and tier2 seasons by shifting them slightly.

basicaly we need clear schedules for the entire year and not only for 6/8 months because i think everything was kinda fine until the season ended

Personally, I would love to see the winner of ascension tournaments either have an automatic slot to LCQ, or participate in some international T2 tournament for a direct slot to champions.

Aside from that yeah, T2 off season looks pretty bleak all across the board. I hope this changes because APAC GC tournaments look more organized at this rate.

To be honest, it is quite difficult to make EMEA regions go viral because the competing titles are too strong; we will need certain popular teams like G8, KC, and KOI to get the momentum going. Polaris, however, were not strong enough for Apeks, and it would have been nice if a team like HEROIC or AST had come in with a strong roster.

  • Leo Faria did mention news regarding Tier 2 stuff gonna be end of August (most likely post champions), people r just heavily impatient.
  • We've seen many complaints from 1st world privilege NA, but the real problem comes from multi-nation T2 sub-region Pacific and EMEA.
  • EMEA sub region needs to be merged, 9 feels too much and the presence of MENA fells non-existent in EMEA.
  • Pacific as being the biggest player base region, have the most brutal Ascension qualification process cause only 1 team from every country/sub region can participate compared to Americas Ascension.
  • Scheduling issue?? Why? Cause of the BIGGEST problem. VISA. Non 1st world country such as LATAM countries/BR/RUSSIA/some pacific countries are most vulnerable to VISA issues. Leo Faria mention the reason Americas ascension in brazil instead of USA is because T2 Brazil players would need 6 months of VISA application to travel to USA. Indian players in example of GE need more time than that, cause they were late to regular season.

TLDR in 9 Words; Region Diversity, Size and VISA problem cause Scheduling Problem
