Regions vs Continent's

Apologies if this is a stupid question, but why does Champions tour do tournaments by smaller regions rather than by continent?

I know vlr mostly has continents in rankings, EU, NA, and Latin America but still has Korea, and Asia Pacific instead of just Asia.

Why not just have EU, NA, SA, Asia, Africa, and Oceania?

Oh, and sorry Antarctica if you have a Valorant team..

1) There's a lot more people in NA, EU, SA so it makes sense to break those regions up
2) Distance, especially in Southern and Eastern Asia and South America people are far away from each other and there's no common servers. Imagine Korea vs Japan

because in online play that just doesn't work, how is japan supposed to play with kazakstan, how is panama supposed to play with USA and Canada, its divided by regions you can be in valorant. the last chance qualifiers I think are continent based(1 from eu, 1 NA, 1 latin America, 1 asia) but by that time I think it will be an so it will be fine

Thanks for clarifying. The server issue, I think, isn't as big a problem on Valorant as other games though, from my experience. I play from UK and get between 80 and 100 ping to east/mid NA and I have to say, it's still a decent experience. I've watched streamers play NA East and West coast together and play on 60+ ping, depending on the server, still top fragging, but yeah, I understand for online play its preferable to have the lowest ping possible.

For example, there are more players in Turkey. That's why 3 teams are participating to EMEA

Dude the distance between Tokyo and Seoul is much smaller than the distance between Paris and Istanbul for example. Japanese players can chill with 40-50 ping on Korean servers and it will be completely fine for them.

It makes no sense that Riot decided to separate Korea and Japan but unite Europe + CIS + Turkey into one thing. Or maybe I miss something?
