Greedy corporate bastards, scamazon and googLe trying to blackmail the KR government so that they don't have to pay network usage fees that THEY incurred

For people out of the loop, this bloomberg article explains what exactly is happening

Start shorting google meta netflix and amazon now because this is only the beginning

Am I not understanding this?
You want tech companies like netflix to pay for internet infrastructure in random countries?
That sounds kinda dumb
would you ask japan to pay for your countries roads because they sell cars to you?

Your analogy was so terrible I will have to educate you on a subject matter I read up upon 2 hours ago.

There's 3 major entities involved, 1 is the ISP, 2 is the CP (content provider, or big tech), and 3 is the internet user.

ISP provides bandwith to both CP and internet users. Users use it to download movies. CP use it to host and upload the movies. But because of the increase in network traffic from video streaming, ISPs need to foot the bill from additional bandwith costs. Users pay ISP more to partially cover this cost. CP does not pay ISP more.

So KR government (and soon EU) is asking CP to pay for their share of the network usage fee. But ofc these companies will cry and challenge this because it hurts their bottom line. They will give out excuses like "oh but we already invest millions to save money in network infrastructure" but then why are you so scared of legislation that asks you to pay your part?

Japanese car manufactures selling more cars will increase traffic, citizens pay road costs through taxes, should the government get the car manufactures so pay for the roads since their product increases the cost of road repair?
I don't see how the analogy doesn't work? Cars and CP both have a product that increases costs for another entity, the other entity wants cars/CP to pay their costs?
ISP's and CP are no different, both are companies trying to get the other to pay for infrastructure to decrease cost.

how would this be any better for the average consumer, ISP prices go down while netflix, ect goes up so at the end of the day prices are just shifted around. US get hurt since they are net exporter in bandwidth products while net imports of bandwidth products are better off. This helps korea at the expense of US

You seem incapable to understand that your analogy makes 0 sense because it's a totally different situation.

Both user and CP pays for bandwith to the ISP.

How the hell do you translate that to car manufacturers and car owners?

Just because the word traffic is included in your analogy doesn't mean it's even remotely the same thing.

Crazy how you can just create a false analogy to justify Amazon not paying for their own network usage, can't argue with stupid.

ISP = Government
Users = tax payers
CP = car manufacturers

The reason Korea and EU are trying to get CP to pay for infrastructure because these countries would rather the US pay for their infrastructure then pay for it themselves. The only reason Korea and EU would do this with any infrastructure if they could.

I'm not necessarily even saying it's bad, obviously it makes sense for a country to want to pay as little for infrastructure as they can but don't act like it's the evil CP corporations being greedy and the saint ISP/gov want justice; both are greedy and don't want to pay the bill and are trying to get the other to.

ISP = Government
Users = tax payers
CP = car manufacturers

Doesn't even remotely make sense. The internet service provider SELLS bandwith to the users and the content providers.

Tell me EXACTLY how you ended up thinking that the government sells something to tax payers and car manufacturers.

What a waste of freaking time lmao. Braindead moron.

because ISP and government both want to minimise costs for infrastructure, the point of the analogy shows that 2 entities, a domestic and foreign one, government/japanese cars or CP/ISP require a infrastructure (roads, internet) to survive, both entities want the other to pay for it.

So to you a korean, it's a good thing because your country is paying less, to an american it's bad since money is leaving your country. Again not saying it's bad for you to support such a policy but you have no moral stance above an american.

But hey keep complaining about how CP companies are greedy while I watch in twitch and youtube 1080p

The fact that people read his car analogy and thought "hmmm, that sounds like a complete valid comparison!" 😂

Average vlr moment. Still sad for you guys, 720p sucks. But you still have Youtube for officials ig?

People seem unsure what's next, consensus for now is just dealing with 720p, and youtube is probably next

Ideal solution is just wait for p2p or see if people transition to other streaming platform

Also, vpn works lol, thats how little thought amazon put into this decision and its purely a "fuck your market, we dont care" type move

TLDR

Digitial landscape is changing as streaming becomes more and more popular. The increase in network traffic costs needs to be shared between internet service providers, and whoever uses the network.

Also isn't this inet thing related to kr government ?
They wanna charge Netflix cuz they make too much money in kr and pay too less tax so now everyone got hit
