Franchising for idiots

People complaining about orgs leaving the scene

lemme tell u this

the only reason these orgs are fielding a valorant roster in the first place

is to get a chance to be one of the franchised teams

if there were no franchising they would never have entered the scene in the first place

u think these Tier 2 teams like t1, geng, akrew, col, etc. are making any sort of money from their valo roster?

theyre paying each player 80k salary, for what? for 3k viewers on NSG tournaments? for 15k twitter impressions?

this 30 pro team scene with full roster of salaries that compare to junior software engineers was never sustainable, and u can thank tenz buyout for the huge salary inflation

this org culling was bound to happen and is actually healthy for the scene (not for the players sadly, but not everyone is meant to be a pro gamer)

valorant esports has now matured past the explosive growth phase and we can finally expect some sustainability

reduce the salary to 50k, why are you so fixed on that fact and not what he is trying to say? he is saying the val market was already inflated with 30+ orgs which was never sustainable

This makes a lot of sense now. I hope something is done for the T2 scene though and 3rd party tournaments are organized so someday some other org can also get a chance for franchising.

and things will get back to normal once val announces a t2 vrl league like in emea for all other regions, and it should be obvious that it will be announced.

Not if that scene has no promotion to the franchise league or is unable to produce numbers like this year's VCT.

but not everyone is meant to be a pro gamer

That is not for riot to dictate, it depends on the opportunities given and it’s clear that T2 will stagnate if there are no plans in place to cultivate that scene. Sure there will be stability but it’s only due to this.

What are the incentives for up and coming players if ‘not everyone is meant to be a pro gamer?. I guess we’ll see hazed competing for NRG until he is 55 (not that he’s a bad player) but there is an example if fresh talent is hindered by riot themselves.

I mean, it's good if you're as a company that runs tournaments chasing viewers and not the highest level of play and healthy scene.

I really hope there's promotion/relegation system or some kind of benefit for different event organizers except Riot themselves to be in this. Otherwise it's gonna be same players in different orgs for years and if something from tier-2 stays it's gonna be a shitshow where players only want to show their individual skill so "big boy" orgs pick them up one day maybe.

Also I can only hope that it doesn't lead into a cycle of "we didn't promote this season to have a chance at making it at this season's Masters, disband and reorganize every half a year until we do so", that's just not interesting to me. I prefer to follow either players or specific cores, not orgs where the only story in that case will be "finally they picked up the right combination of players".

Well damn, somebody tell that to CS, they didn't mature in like 25 years now. Yes, there are franchised leagues, even 2 in fact and third one died. All of those by third parties and 2 alive still has either regional qualifiers or promotion system. But the main circuit is still completely open, there's even no invites unless you did something last time.
