Paytm originally only supported its wallet feature. Much later, UPI became a thing, and Paytm had to incorporate UPI into its app.
I could use GPay, PhonePe, my banking app from my bank, or any other UPI-supported app to send you money.
I will send the money through "UPI" and not Paytm. Paytm is literally just the frontend side of UPI that you see.
