changing the smokes actually sounds important for the competitive players. i remember the smoke was buggy as fuck the last time i watch cs esport, like see through smokes and shit. so i think they are just changing things that are broken on csgo and can be fixed with the new engine

they dont need to change, they were just trying to import the game to the new game engine. changing it will only force the whole playerbase to relearn the game.
i mean why would they change it, there are a lot of players still playing it. i think avoiding unnecessary change is the better thing to do for them, keep the game as similar as possible

you might not be that happy if they win the first match without the indians, but just wait until the end of the tournament when you will see an indian team not ending dead last in a tournament
if the win they get more points, the indians will eventually join the tournament and at the end of the tournament we all can be happy if GE end up somewhat high in the leaderboard.
