i was being deliberately obtuse. i should become a full time baiter holy shit it is so easy to get you mad. i also wrote "any less wrong" and you still said "yes" to that lmao.

either way factoring in smb, they're still 7-2 vs EMEA

Nah. Tokyo/Seoul for APAC. Arguably Seoul because KR already has Riot infrastructure from League, and they've been hosting Challengers on LAN for ages.

posted about 3 years ago

JP because viewership and money.

posted about 3 years ago

for korea 2 spots are already a lot

?

And yeah, I'm not saying 3 isn't too much. I'm just saying KR talent is there and franchising is arguably saving the KR region from being bled dry.

posted about 3 years ago

Never said KR deserves 3, but you're acting like KR deserves only 1 and "maybe 2", which I disagree with. KR having 1 slot only is part of the reason KR talent is moving to other regions and qualifying from there (like NA and JP).

Results wise, KR is still a good region too considering they've had only 1 team.
1 3rd place finish
2 5-6th place
Now that I think about it KR is the best performing 1 slot region. BR/LATAM doesn't count because of playoffs seeding in 2022

Well for every tournament bar 1 the best Japanese team had at least 2 Koreans as the star player/IGL so...

As for these outdated "incredible" stats, they're the only publicly available stats to go off. Plus the Masters Reykjavik and Copenhagen stats are still relevant. Meteor and JoXJo aren't OW players btw. Neither was Xeta.

I also checked the Liquipedia page. KR sent like 1 team almost every event save for Berlin but still ranked top 2 for most events. It's arguable that JP was the worst region but don't forget Xeta and Sayaplayer were at one point considered the best in their role in NA. And Meteor literally won 3-1 against ZETA, who placed 3rd last Masters.

why downvote yourself for that lol its not even your fault

posted about 3 years ago

that single country puts up more numbers than entire regions, you're tripping. JP deserves all 3 slots these guys have insane viewership.

KR teams are good enough and so are their players. They've sent almost consistently the 1st/2nd most players to p much every international event and 2/3 KR teams made top 4 at APAC LCQ.
(2nd at Masters Reykjavik 2021, 1st at Masters Berlin, 4th at Champions, 2nd at Masters Reykjavik 2022, 2nd at Masters Copenhagen - every tournament except Berlin KR had only sent 1 team, whereas the top spots were usually occupied by regions that sent 2+ teams. this is crazy)
That was without the 2nd best KR team playing btw.

SEA deserves as many spots as possible though, because the talent pool and potential is really big in Valorant.

to be fair, JP does have a bigger scene. Korea has talent but no resources or viewership, so hopefully franchising saves them...but not at the cost of SEA.
Indonesia, Thailand, PH, and SG/MY have proven their worth in Valorant. HK/TW and VN have yet to do that tbh.

posted about 3 years ago

This is good for KR, but it better not fuck up the potentially huge market in SEA.

tbh i feel like there's no point in academy teams if they're gonna do that. Seems like a gimmick orgs are doing to try and earn a franchising spot instead of actually trying to scout and cultivate talent. Having players trained in-house cuts down on buyout money and helps create a philosophy on the game. Not to mention the ability to sell players you've produced to other teams. It also incentivises new talent and overall helps the stability of the org within that game. That's what academy teams are for.

daily "plz explain franchising thread"

posted about 3 years ago

Bleed's academy team completely useless if all they're gonna do is buyout intl players.
