this is obviously a misled stereotype in the united states though. when i lived in the states, i found that indians were more similar to white people than they were similar to, say, east asians. this is probably because many of them came to the states already very wealthy, meaning they could assimilate much more quickly (this is not to say they are culturally identical).

1. there are a lot of indian phone scammers that call into the states (where most stereotypes are born)
2. scamming is more of an industry in india, while it's more difficult to get away with in first world countries
