Riot has made changes to its Valorant Community Competition Guidelines – a ruleset community tournament organizers operate under – following its recent 2027 competition update announcement.

Key ChangesNew community guidelines will now operate under “one unified global framework” across all supported regions and languages.Tiered licensing systems – which previously followed size and scale of tournaments – have been replaced by a single community competition license.Hard caps on entree fees, sponsorship revenue, prize pools, and spectator fees have been removed.Event duration restrictions have been removed.Naming and branding guidelines have been relaxed.Restricted sponsor categories have been updated.A visibility form for events has been created.Excluded Organizations

The following are not included in the new community competition guidelines:

Government organizations of any levelProfessional Valorant teams and players “operating under separate agreements and programs”Streaming, broadcast, or media platformsCorporate brands without an established presence as tournament organizersAny event organized by or at the discretion of the above entities

Those that fall into the categories above must work alongside Riot on a separate license agreement.

Tournament naming utilizing sponsors must follow certain guidelines that avoid incorporating said sponsors into the competition name.

Approved Assets and Streaming

On top of being able to charge entree fees and make sponsorship agreements, tournament organizers may use Valorant assets to promote their tournaments at the sole discretion of Riot.

Organizers may not imply that Riot Games or the Valorant esports team operate, endorse, or sponsor events, which means that they cannot:

Use Riot Games logos in event marketingUse official Valorant event branding such as “Masters” or “Champions”Present tournaments as official Riot competitions

Events may be streamed to any platform of choice aside from linear (traditional) television, and organizers may charge spectator fees and gate access for offline events.

Prohibited Sponsors

Certain sponsor categories are not allowed under Valorant Community Competition Guidelines. This list includes:

Gambling, sportsbooks, and casinosFantasy esports operators (including daily fantasy)Prescription drugs or non-over-the-counter drugs, including CBD productsFirearms, ammunition, weapons, and related accessoriesPornography or adult content platformsTobacco products or paraphernaliaAlcohol products or intoxicants regulated by lawCounterfeit or illegal virtual item marketplacesSellers violating Riot's Terms of ServiceCryptocurrencies, NFTs, or unregulated financial instrumentsPolitical campaigns or political action committeesCharities tied to partisan political or religious advocacy, or charities lacking established reputabilityAny sponsor or promotional content that includes or promotes material that is unlawful, threatening, obscene, harassing, discriminatory, or otherwise could reasonably be seen as harmful to the goodwill of Riot, VALORANT, or the broader communityVisibility Form and Rights

Finally, tournament organizers are asked to fill out a visibility form (with the password “VALevent”) whenever they choose to host competitions under the new guidelines. In most cases, organizers do not need to hear back from Riot before moving forward with their competitions.

Riot ultimately retains rights to tournaments, and can shut down events that violate the new guidelines.

The competition guidelines update was created to accompany the upcoming changes set to take place following the conclusion of the 2026 VCT and ahead of 2027
