7 figures isnt even that much for esports, plenty of large transfers are around that much
it makes sense for a player of his caliber and size in an esport as big as valorant
device got sold for half a million for just a 6 month contract
You reference CS but there have been VERY few transfers worth that much.
The only one I can think of is NiKo, which was reportedly in the low 7 figures.
Also, "an esport the size of valorant". Valorant really isn't even breaking into the top esports just yet. These values are all inflated due to EXPECTED growth, not actual growth.
Valorant just started and there's already a 7 figure transfer. That's absurdly high for something that, while has potential, is not fully developed yet.
well if you believe the viewership will continue on form what we see in Iceland, then no reason why it shouldn't be around the transfer price of other esports (like CSGO, league etc.)
It's more for his brand and exposure/hype it brings than his actual pro gamer skill in tourney's, still definitely a substantial part tho

So basically it was another $1miliion on top of the $250K that had already been paid for the loan back in March/April. Considering TenZ's online and Twitch presence, I think both parties got a great deal.

Why do fans who watch normal sports get excited when a team signs a big name? Same reason. And hey, no reason to get jealous of a dude getting that pay check. Tyson seems like a nice dude outside the game, good to see him become successful.
nah i mean i don't mid the fan angle of TenZ and SEN finally getting a stable roster but that C9 fans are celebrating C9 Jack getting rich? I mean it doesn't really make much sense knowing that the money probably wont even be put into Valorant now that they've got themselves what looks like a decent roster already
I am worried that after some point TenZ might underperform(obviously i dont want this). Just hoping that Sentinels don't regret this decision.
I don't know if the org really ever will regret it, though the Valorant roster itself might who knows. Even if TenZ falls off and just goes back to just streaming, SEN will get their investment back over time. It does bring in some good vibes for sponsors and investors for a team trying to shake of the Sinatraa allegations as well.
Why would they regret it? It's not just tenz being a good player, it's also the fanbase he has. TenZ has a lot of media attention and a large fanbase. Most revenue of an esport org does NOT come from tournaments, but from sponsors etc.
Having a fan favorite like TenZ on your team does much more for sponsors and brand knowledge than winning tournaments (though winning iceland definitely is a big boost)
