Historically there's been geopolitical tensions and animosity b/w china and korea and in 2024 the GEN CEO said something unpleasant (or racist idr) about China which lead to the Chinese hating the GEN team.

geng basically implied that taiwan is a country and the soft chinese people crashed out
it was so bad to the point where the geng players are getting the dasnerth treatment in cn ranked
GenG league of legends social media page (forgot which one) mentioned Taiwan as a country. That is where the hatred for GenG came. What happened then was GenG league team won MSI held in China which happened right after the incident and GenG valorant won in Shanghai a month later.

There were lot of people still cheering for geng throughout the series and you can still see people clapping and shit there. Also that's just common east asian crowd when their team isn't playing bruh unless the crowd contains Chinese people like in Seoul champs.
It was very bad in group stage but texture gained a lot of fans during playoffs time. Also Riot crowd mic is just shit. I saw a clip posted from pov of someone in that crowd, it was way louder than whether it was in main stream.
The animosity towards GenG was definitely there at the start but the players, mainly t3xture, won over a some of the chinese fans. It felt like by the final, the atmosphere was "We hate GenG but we like the players". But the crowd was still mostly on TH side
