help me find an ending for my short story

basically, i need to write a text about connected to a forest with a surprising ending. however, my dumbass cant find one thats surprising enough so help me find one plz.
the story is basically someone gets chased in a forest by enemy soldiers, then hides in a cave, and a bomb makes a boulder cover the entrance. however, after waiting for the enemy troops to go away, he decides to get out, but the boulder is too heavy so he gets stuck forever and dies. If you have a better idea plz let me know, i want to keep "the soldier runs away from an army IN THE FOREST<----very important" though

He remove the boulder and found the guard camping with shorty behind tree near emtrance. Then, the guard miss the shorty shot and our protagonis want to knife him, but miss because knife mechanic are shit. The end

After years of surviving on rain water and insects, he finds a tiny slab wedged between the boulder and the ground. Awestruck on something so simple yet took so long to figure, he pulls the slab with no hesitation. The boulder did not move. It still towers over the man with authority. Berserk the man went as he pounds the boulder for giving him false hope. Suddenly the boulder tilts and crushes the man as it rolls down the deep dark tunnel.

Why don't you make it so the soldier actually follows the protagonist into the cave but they get lost inside its internal maze and the protagonist gets out.
