Riot has released a blog post detailing the upcoming re-release of the competitive mode. The mode, while present in beta, was absent at the game's launch and has been a highly requested feature since.

It is expected to ship Tuesday with the upcoming 1.02 patch.

The brief changes are listed below:

Changes for launch:

  • Updated rank iconography and top rank name
  • Easier to play with your friends

Soon after patch 1.02:

  • Rank Progression

The top rank will be renamed from VALORANT to Radiant, in a bid to reduce confusion between the game and the rank.

Matchmaking restrictions also will be loosened during placement matches, allowing players to queue with other players of greater differences in skill.

Notably absent is a solo-queue mode, although Riot acknowledges the inherent advantages of 5-stacking at higher ranks and is planning on addressing this specific problem later this year.
