What da hell is going on in the esports scene
if you think spending 100 million dollars on fnatic is a worthy investment i don't know what i should tell you
If that’s what investors believe they’re valued at then who are we to argue?
exactly, this is what the vc people thought when they pumped money in esports orgs pre covid era and now they're all gone
i mean esports is heading towards mainstream media i would say, probably people seeing that and getting ready hoping it does.
edit: picking a big brand name up would be a worthy investment if it does.
Aren’t some video games going to be at the next olympics as well? I would say this might be reason to invest if it expands into other things as big as the olympics.
Fnatic as a team probably ain’t worth £100mil so you gotta consider the cost of keeping their sponsors with Sony and such adding up in that price tag
nah, the olympics picked up fucking wii games, on the sponsors part, i doubt sony is pumping a lot of money considering the steady decline fnatic has been under in the last years, (cs team is dead, lol team is on life support)
I just checked there, the Olympic committee created the Olympic Esports games (first one planned for 2027) this is separate from the olympics of course. But they are very capable of making this a big thing. At least bigger than EWC is I think. Maybe not prize pool wise of course, but from a viewership perspective since that is quite terribly low for an event like EWC even with all their funding.
All relying on going beyond games such as chess, gran turismo and table tennis. If they just stick to that it’ll flop
Apparently the plans fell through with the Saudi government and it’ll be organised by the Olympic committee now.
So at least if it’s hosted in Saudi it won’t be funded by the government itself
whilst i don't really agree on the mainstream part, i do agree the org is one of the most prestigious ones but that amount of money is just insanity, also worth mentioning pretty much most orgs lose money if you disregard some unicorns
