Academy Rosters?

Can someone explain what the point of academy rosters actually is? EG just announced they’re building one, but does that tie into the whole 2027 re-evaluation thing, or is it completely separate and just about developing new talent? And is there even a chance for an academy team to compete in the main VCT circuit?

It should increase likelihood of them being reinstated since it’s showing their interest in investing into Homegrown talent

What happens if their main team flops? Even if the academy roster is borderline “good,” would they really use a slot on a team like that?

franchised team selection barely takes performance into consideration, hence why optic and acend weren’t let into franchising
all that matters is if riot feels like the orgs they choose will contribute to the growth of the scene both in talent and viewership, which fielding an academy team demonstrates

yk how EG had a 10 man roster when they won a world championship? they were able to host in-house scrims, essentially able to replicate specific scenarios without letting other teams see their plans and protocols

since it appeared extremely beneficial, it would only make sense to field highly talented t2 prospects and not only fundamentally mold them into helpful tools, but also as the key to becoming the best

To develop talent in case you lose players, look at SEN as an example. They had Reduxx on the academy roster in case some left (Zekken in this case), and when he did, they already had a replacement ready. The same applies to swapping Kyu for Zellsis. You know what these players are capable of when you sign them.
