current = close ciruit, franchise/ascension slots handed out by riot
pre 2023- open ciruit, riot can ban teams in certain cases yes but riot dont hand pick who plays
the proposal ive heard is 2027 will have a mix of close ciruit (franchise slots) and open ciruit (teams forming without riot "picking" them)
i.e acend will get back into val in 2027
they can just control who is in challengers, trust me they can very much control who gets in
I thought gambit just kinda got fucked over by being a russian org more than getting banned by riot
