i ve got a lab report for tommorow and its about uncertainty and shit
in class we mesured ourselves with a chronometer run a 25m distance, in which everyone averaged around 4.0
what should the uncertainty be? i say +-0.5 my brother says 0.3
reminder: there was a HUMAN taking the time at each 5m distance

Rock paper scissors, this is the exact sort of thing I would argue with my brother about too. Honestly, it probably doesn't really matter if it's + or - 0.5 or 0.3. Both seem reasonable to me. (also, the point of the lab was probably not even to see what the room for error is so I doubt your teacher would care much about it)

the point of the lab was actually to test our capability on how to use numbers and uncertainty by making functions and graphs with the results, and which uncertainty you used would count for a lot of points. i settled down with 0.3 cause my brother's older and its much more precise using 0.3 because when you add 2 results with 0.3, you wont get 1 as a final uncertainty

you should honestly ask another forum, but 0.3 seems correct. trust your older brother.
