Well Water

Good morning brothers, recently my family came across a decent well we were unaware of on our land. It has water in it still and appears to be working. I was wondering if anyone here has wells and could share some tips on managing ground water. I am not quite convinced it is safe to drink. Should I get it tested to ensure it is safe? Hikers use a trail nearby and walk around the well sometimes. I do not want anyone getting sick from it.
Any help?

You should first check if it is clear, if it’s clear it’s mostlikely fine if you’re nearby the source. If it isn’t clear, you should get a water kit to see what’s inside and what to use. And if you ever feel uneasy, just get a water kit

Appreciate the response brother. I hadn't thought of those small kits you can buy to test water. I will go and pick one up this afternoon if they are at hardware stores here. The water is clear for the most part and actually looks very drink-able.

You should also check if there’s any scent. If there is, it might be iffy unless it goes through the kit to which it will taste “metallic”

Thank you for the helpful insights brother, I believe it is nighttime for Canada so I hope your night is pleasant.

Yeah, no problem! I used to go hiking for days on end up mountains pre-Covid, was fun and I had to do that a few times(a bit rusty at it), and thank you! I will have a good night :)

get a ph test for starters and check if its acidic or basic, if it turns red then its acidic and contains some or the other bacteria, etc which are multiplying and probably not good. but if you want to drink it, its probably best to get a testing kit.

Take some water out, do some tests in it to check if its drinkable. It if it then the Well is good to use.
