Before i say anything else, I still think FNC were the best team this year specifically because they had the highest peak (Masters).

But for the mfs saying Champions <= Masters + LOCK//IN, you guys have to be trolling. LOCK//IN was completely single elim Bo3s until the Bo5 playoffs where there was just semis and a final Bo5. Idk why we're hyping up a tourney that was literally a one-time experiment with just a 500k prize pool (winner gets only 100k). I understand the argument for Masters of course but it's just not on the same lvl compared to Champions even with the inclusion of LOCK//IN.

The winning prize pool for Champions 2023 was more than DOUBLE than Masters + LOCK//IN and the Champs winner gets a 50% cut from the champs skin ( likely would amount to even more than 1 mill thanks to the game releasing in China), the comparison shouldn't even be close. VCT is literally named after the final tourney for a reason, it'll be like saying MSI + an experimental season-opening tourney > Worlds, it's just a different level of prestige. No player or org wouldn't say that they would prefer to be in EG spot this year compared to FNATIC.

LOCK//IN has never existed prior to this year though, you can argue that 2021 SEN or 2022 OPTIC wouldve won their LOCK//IN, it's just another reason to downgrade it since it was literally just a 1 time thing with a bad format and a small prize pool.

ofc its more prestigious,but the formats are exactly the same with masters and so is the level of competition, winning 2 events so dominantly makes their case for being the best team in the word way stronger,if eg or loud won lock in and tokyo and came 4th in champs EVERYONE would say they dominated this year and were the best team in the world,ut now since fnc couldn't literally 3 peat every all the haters are trying to downplay their dominance this season lol

LOCK//IN was very much not a dominant tourney for FNC though due to the final + the shitty bracket and the teams they faced. Again you can argue about it but prestige is all that matters to these players and their orgs. If LoL esports had smth similar to LOCK//IN, nobody's gonna be saying that they'll prefer a back-to-back LOCK//IN and MSI win over Worlds, you're making it sound like competition is more important than prestige and it really isn't. Champions is THE tournament with the highest stakes and the highest pressure to perform.

the difference is in league msi format is completely mickey mouse compared to worlds and its the only event expect worlds,masters literally has the exact same format as champs but with less low tier teams,if u wanna be regarded as the best in the world then winning masters and lock in has a stronger case for u,if u wanna win the most prestigious event then champs,even boostio still after winning champs said fnatic is the best team itw and better than them,its personal preference at that point which u prefer with ur legacy

If you think about money and prestige, yes, Champions > Masters + Lock//In

In terms of competition, Champions and Masters are roughly the same simply because of the teams and format.

I think people saying Masters + Lock//In > Champions are saying that to support their argument that Fnatic was the best team (in terms of results/wins, not prize money) of 2023, not to claim Fnatic to be the most prestigious team.

yeah I'm trying to highlight the importance of Champions this year pretty much that a lot of ppl are downgrading. EG had the better year, but FNC were the best team. I've been a diehard FNC fan since 2015 but I would easily prefer if FNC had EG's year 100%.

hard truth is champions will always be 10x more valuable than masters / lock in type tournaments solely because its champions. take cs for example so greatest players eg niko, guardian, elige have won tons of championships but have never won the major so theyll be excluded from goat convo, worlds for val is same as major for cs

No one cares about prestige, competition matters all here. all the 3 tournaments have the same competition or roughly the same.
