they went from being called bottom 3 worst teams in the americas league. they shouldnt have qual'd for playoffs but only qualified because of a miracle during americas league and then somehow qualified for tokyo and everyone expected them to bomb out but got 2nd place after beating teams who people said were significantly better. i think a big reason they were still called an underdog is because of how close tokyo and champs were to eachother. if champs was in october or november it wouldve been slightly different

on top of this, they almost went into tokyo without demon1, and only had 1-2 days of prac with demon1. so most people already counted them out when the Tokyo event started but still came second place.

even after demon1 subbed in for bcj people thought the whole team were trolling because bcj was considered as their best player. He wasn’t terrible but people thought EG were trash until right before Americas playoffs. Even then everyone thought they were playoff contender at best. When people realized that EG went to tokyo, nobody expected them to dominate and people from other regions thought NA was screwed because a team like EG made it to tokyo

they are the cinderella, they started slow this year (getting 13-0'ed), getting 2-0'ed by talon at lockin, dropping bcj, demon1 visa issue at tokyo, just getting 2nd place there (at tokyo), and won champion today, hows is that doesnt count as the cinderella?

At the start, people thought EG was a t2 roster. Boom! They rose to the top of AMERICA, beating heavy hitting teams like NRG and C9. Going into Tokyo, they all doubted EG because they didn't have demon1 (until the last second.) Now, they doubted them because they haven't faced any "real" competition and had the easiest route until playoffs. That's why people doubted them; because they were unsure if they were going to replicate their form in Tokyo. Which to everyone's surprise, they surpass that form, defeating heavy hitting teams, such as: DRX, EDG, LOUD, and now PRX.

Tbh I'm more excited for the NA t2 league and the APAC franchise league. They'll probably show some interesting stuff now that the meta has changed.
