Why cned didn't work (in my opinion)

There have been reports of cned leaving navi after a 1 year stint with the org.
https://twitter.com/anonimotum/status/1695160389774749995

So the question is... what went wrong to cause this.

Firstly, we have to look at what Cned provides.

Cned is a specialist.
He is incredibly proficient with jett and a operator in particular.

Cned agent rating in 2023:

| AGENT | RATING 2023 | ROUNDS PLAYED |
|---------|-------------|---------------|
| JETT | 1.15 | 668 |
| KILLJOY | 0.87 | 46 |
| NEON | 0.98 | 135 |
| OMEN | 0.89 | 60 |
| RAZE | 1.02 | 200 |
| SAGE | 0.85 | 47 |
| YORU | 0.97 | 155 |

Ange1 is someone I would like to call the "tinkerer".
Constantly changing compositions to how he sees fit.
The amount of comps NAVI played this year is absurd. navi comp list

He has even said "We change comps to make opponents waste their preparation." (source)

He views the comps and the game as what the agents can provide instead of what the players can provide.

A moment from navi lcq run really sticks out to me:
https://www.youtube.com/live/du91xIBAR_g?si=8LN-LpaqblSqwd-O&t=16437

"The split comp was the first time we ever played it" -d00mbr0s

in reference to playing double duelist vs koi split.

From an outsiders point of view this comp plays into alot of navi's strengths.
Cned jett, zyppan raze, fade shao, cypher suygetsu.... it was almost alarming that they hadn't scrim'd this before.
It wasn't even a new comp. Double duelist split comps had become very common during tokyo, albeit without the fade.

Ange1 has created a roster with flexibility in mind.

  1. Shao has been converted into more of a flexible role this season, even playing smokes.
  2. Zyppan plays initiator and the off-duelist role, with raze being a pocket-pick of his.
  3. Ange1 himself plays controller and sentinel and was even a jett player at one point.
  4. Suygetsu plays all of the sentinel agents at a high level aswell as the viper role.

I don't think cned fits the mold of a ange1 system player.
He is still a good player and under the right conditions can thrive tremendously.

What do you guys think?

I don’t even think cned was the problem he probably left for his own career

Good article. I honestly think it's a no brainer to put cned on comfort roles, especially jett. But going forward with the jett nerf, the most viable agent for him to pick up is raze or chamber. The way I see it, if he becomes a great chamber he'll be one of the best.

Comfort Roles >> Flexibility imo

Part of the reason 2020-2022 Liquid didn’t work is because of (aside from having no igl) are players filling other roles all the time

Yup he has a different style of reporting, he doesn't do rumors or approaches or try out or whatever. Only done stuff

I haven't actually thought about who navi should pick up.
Though sayf would fit stylistically, its unlikely liquid let him leave.
Also I don't think sayf would want to be part of the system, he seems a very vocal player and ange1 approach to the game might put him off.

Ardiis seems like the obvious choice but that a lazy link.

I also wouldn't rule out a navi role swap that could open up a different position.

All 3 of the orgs are making the right moves imo, hopefully they can close out the rosters they want

I’m pretty sure both NAVI are letting go more than just cNed, prob Zyppan, and TL is letting go more than just Soulcas, prob Sayf since that’s who clashed with Redgar at the start of the year

Now the question stands who is a possible replacement for cNed which will also work in Ange1 system

Surely Liquid keep sayf, unless there are some terrible internal issues but it doesn't seem likely.
I honestly don't think the redgar stuff was too serious, it's definitely something that could have been hashed out over the season.

He's a flexible and vocal player who would be snatched up instantly if he was let go.

Oh I don't think they have internal issues as of fighting. But they have different visions of the game, they don't match styles, they just don't fit together and they know. I'm pretty convinced 1 of the 2 is out, and I think it will be Sayf. Plus TL after this year can't just replace soulcas, they are doing more changes

That's a good point.
Stylistic difference and approaches could lead to 1 of redgar or sayf leaving the roster.
I guess it's could be up to TL coaching setup to decide what path to take, or none at all if they found a way to accommodate both.

Yup, it's not a matter of players, TL has 4 world class players, their problem is beyond that. And tbh I'm taking down both doombros and Emil too ngl
