The Guard has qualified for franchising 2024-25 right
So does that mean they'll have to play Ascension again in 26 or what?
Can't they retain their slot?

Yes that’s exactly what it means. In 26 they will be back to tier 2. And no they can’t retain their slot unless Riot decides to swap them for an already franchised team, but that can only happen every 4 years so 2027.

Guard is a bit fucked, but everyone ascending after that will have a timing that will match the swap window, if they actually deserve it more they can stay

from my understanding they'd get relegated back to tier-2 unless riot decides to partner with them by removing an existing team
