A major should be the highest tier event possible, and is iceland that? i feel like valorant champions finals in december is a major, as it is the highest stage in the world where iceland and berlin QUAL you for. iceland and berlin are not as they are qualifying events

iceland is definitely a major, if you deny this you're factually wrong and just a fucking retard. iceland is literally the most prestigious tournament tier, an international LAN with the best teams across the world who qualiified rigorously from the top of their respective regions. it is objectively a major. champions is of the same tier as iceland, but just slightly more prestigious. you're being completely pretentious here lmfao.

Well, in CS, a major has a prize pool of $1 mil or more, while Masters Reykjavik had $600,000, so not as prestigious as a CSGO major.

yeah but majors had qualifiers for it, and there was no higher stage or posssible tournament, just like how iceland and berlin are qualis ffor champions finals, which doesnt have a higher stage

the first valve-sponsored CS:GO majors had $250k prize pools

i dont think a major is about prize pool its more like the pressure involved for playing the "world cup"

the problem with this is dota "majors" are just considered international tournaments
(example weplay animajor with a 500,000 prize pool)
I'm not sure
I wouldn't, esp. because there would be 3 a year next year

Majors are/is the largest event in the game for the year. Iceland, while certainly a big tournament, wouldn't be considered a major and more like a very big IEM tournament

Personally, don't think Valorant has the exact equivalent of a CS Major. I personally view Masters a little lower tier than a normal CS Major. But I view Champions personally higher than a normal CS Major. Champions is the result of everything in the last year, given the title of world champion for that year. While I understand people trying to find similarities between between the two scenes, as it currently stands how Masters and Champions are put together I don't think this is an area we can find an exact answer.

I don't think you can compare Val and CSGO here. It's probably better to compare it to League. I think Masters would be like LoL MSI and Champions would be like Worlds.

not really since there is no relation between msi and worlds

It's slightly different from any other game, but the way I personally classify events (in comparison to other disciplines):
Masters = Major
Champions = Worlds (world championship)

It's a bit of a mix, but I like it :)

Champions ~ Major.
Iceland was a tourney with just 10 teams and sort of a teaser imo.

Yes but Im talking about scale of the tournament for the Esport. MSI is the second largest tournament of LoL as Masters is the second largest tournament in Val. Obviously winning masters can get you points which leads to Champions but it's still a big individual tournament

I mean, the main point of the Majors is that is the only Competition organized by Valve. So we could say that every LAN international in Valorant is a Major. It doesn’t make sense. If you want to compare it to something do it to LOL
