Valorant and Astralis (no bait)

Valorant will never have a revolution in tactics akin to Astralis’s inferno banana take (using coordinated grenades and such as opposed to sending someone with an awp to slow peak stuff). I feel like a lot of people are treating Valorant as an unsolved game where people just haven’t figured out the optimal way to play. They expect a revolution in tactics akin to what happened in CS that helped lead to long term domination of teams like Astralis. That revolution will never happen.

Why not? Simply because valorant has constantly changing metas. Different teams will figure out the best ways to play on certain metas but long term dominance will happen because of the flexibility of a team to continually adapt (like Faker has throughout his LOL career) throughout different patches. Assuming riot keeps updating the game like they should, there will never be an optimal way to play valo and that’s a GOOD thing.

TLDR: read if you’re bored elsewise don’t bother commenting

Theres a difference between having an astralis level of dynasty and having an astralis level of revolution in terms of utility. If you compare first strike tsm running 3 duelists comps, with sentinels in iceland, and with optic now, there’s a clear growth, and I honestly don’t think we’ve reached the ceiling yet. While metas may change, they will probably keep advancing towards more coordinating stuff unless riot fucks up the changes

I totally agree. I think teams will continue to get better and more coordinated, and I definitely think a period of dominance from some team will happen someday because the players + staff are just too good. I just don’t think that team will be dominant because they “perfected” specific ways of controlling maps like Astralis did.

Yea we will never have a revolution akin to that, but tactics are improving by a lot, and the game is getting solved much more. Just like what GLN above said about there being clear growth in game, out of game the strats are being developed at a much higher level, honestly DRX's early set plays are not even that amazing in this day and age. Also long term dominance is not that great imo, because I like to see new teams get better and to see the scene never stagnate.

Not more strats: more optimized strats for what they’re trying to do. Look at chess for example, because nothing has changed in 200 years, strategies are so optimized and so well known we have names for 90% of em.

yes 100% the only reason csgo has been able to be mastered is because the game has remained basically unchanged (which is good its a great game) but if riot updates the game like they update LoL it will never reach that level. improvement in tactics will always continue but there will never be a perfect way to play, which is perfectly fine and will keep the game fresh
