NRG

NRG has so much potential to be a Tier 1 team but they seem to fall short. I feel like they have a couple of problems they need to fix:

Firstly, NRG is a momentum-based team. Once they got to a hot start it is hard to stop them, however, once they start losing it seems like they give up; their tactics, planning, and overall strategy becomes predictable and relatable to a regular comp match. I am not entirely sure if it is an igl issue or a coaching issue but it seems like they do not have much depth in their strategies.

Second, I think the players are not playing the correct agents. For example, we have ANDROID playing Viper, KJ, and sometimes Chamber. Don't forget when ANDROID was on ANDBOX that he was an exceptional duelist. Although Phoenix is not in meta, I think he should have been playing Raze or Reyna on specific maps over tex. Putting him on a sentinel-like KJ limits him in my opinion.
Tex, on the other hand, I think would be better specifically on Chamber, Kayo, and possibly learning how to play Viper and or KJ. His performances against Tier 1 teams when playing duelist have not been very good and even then his performances on KAYO have been extremely underwhelming. Maybe it is time for rotation, just like how they made 100T hiko play sentinels.

Finally, the comp selections are questionable on specific maps. NRG makes tex play Skye on Bind instead of Raze which puts them at a disadvantage on the attack side of Bind (based on their performance against Sentinels (1-11 on attack)). Hazed should be playing as viper on icebox while ANDROID should be playing Sage. Even then both ANDROID and hazed haven't been good on viper recently. They definitely need to rework their comp selection and who plays who.

Overall, eeiu or som are NOT a problem. I do think the issue resides in both ANDROID and tex. They are very good players, don't get that wrong but they play similar agent pools (they were mainly duelists when on other pro teams and even share chamber on NRG) but their performances have not been the greatest when having to play other agents like KAYO (tex) or Viper and KJ (ANDROID). How I see it is that either one or the other needs to find another team where they can play a more offensive role. I think there is a conflict of interest when they both play together. Not only that, but I think the style of play at NRG doesn't suit both of them either.

Let me know what you think :)

There is still a chance of them qualifying.

  • They win against both Rise and Knights
  • Sen don't throw against Rise
  • Optic don't throw against Knights.

The odds really low tbh of them not qualifying. Hope anything drastic doesn't happen causing them the tourney.

Honestly I think the biggest odds are on Sentinels not losing; Rise are kinda the dark horse rn, no one really knows whether they dominate like they did vs. Optic or disappear vs. V1.

I really hope nrg qual man, gotta have s0m in playoffs hes insane

Wouldn't sen have to lose to V1 as well to make it 2-3? Although i think v1 can beat them

Oh I said it with the common take that V1 best in their group and go 5-0

Having ANDROID, "an exceptional duelist," w/ s0m only creates more problems. In the long run, ANDROID can pick up these agents and master them. This also comes to show how we need a pheonix buff - he has good util, just not powerful enough.

It's also unlucky they are placed in group b, with sentinels, optic, and v1 (rise is a bit inconsistent soooo).

Anyways, well done!

I definitely agree with this statement. s0m does create more problems because of his limited selection however as of right now he has been performing fairly well, even though they have been losing. Jett-only players will definitely fall out of meta sooner or later, especially once Riot implements banning agents in their tourneys. Although ANDROID can learn and master new agents it does become more difficult to play a style that suits him like how it did on ANDBOX; but I guess that comes with time.

Thank you for the comment :)

I dont understand this take

People dont understand the importance of momentum and the effect momentum has in this game. NRG may be a momentum based team, but momentum is a huge factor in this game to the point that people sometimes call tactical timeouts to stop the other teams momentum. Games often have a team leading 5-1 but then the half is 7-5 for the other team. The momentum thing is more the game than NRG in my opinion. Also the NRG players based on their streams and comms videos dont seem like they would tilt and have great mental so its hard to believe that a mental factor is dragging them down, although what they show in comms videos and how they are in ranked and on social media could be very different from what we dont see. That point is kind of left up to the intepritation of the one doing the analisis.

Also, roles cant be a problem since hazed has his preffered role, s0m does his best on jett, and tex said on his stream that the jett role didnt fit him and he prefers playing the raze, skye and kayo. Android is the only one that we cant confirm if he likes his role or not. And if u switch android and tex then tex wont be happy with his role and theres no guarantee that android would like to play kayo and skye.

Lastly, the comp you think they should run on bind is something they did run in the past. Im assuming they just didnt like it as much as the comp they play with s0m on jett, and I think the team knows what comps works best for them more than us vlr users would.

I definitely understand where you come from though and theres just as big of a chance that im wrong as there is that youre wrong. I think at this point NRG is just a curse of getting tier 1 talent and never really breaking into tier 1. They are looking good this vct though and if they make it through group stage i would consider them tier 1.

s0m doesnt have a small agent pool NRG simply chooses to have him on the jett because jett is meta and hes the teams best jett player

s0m has played reyna, raze, phoenix, jett, skye, omen, brim and astra in tourneys before

theres more agents im not mentioning cuz i cant remember exactly everyone he played

I see what you mean. What I should have probably said is that once they fall so far behind it is like they lose motivation or give up to an extent. Even if they don't show their frustration through the comms videos, it could still affect individuals differently. I do agree that it can be left up to the analysis.

I know tex doesn't play Jett however when he plays Reyna and raze his performances against T1 teams are not up to level. I think him on KAYO and Skye is okay but I think they should try ANDROID on raze or Reyna at some point whether it is in VCT or NSG it's up to them.

The issue with that bind comp is that Raze brings so much impact compared to Skye as if it is required on that map. Just like how sage is important on icebox because of how the b site is set up. Of course, the teams would know how comps work better because of their scrims and practical experience, I am just giving providing an opinion based on what I see.

I would never say I am thoroughly correct and I do see where you are coming from.

Thank you for the insight :)

mental and agents is all something us vlr users cant really know abt better than the actual team so their issues at this point probably are just other teams are better be it mechanical skill or a strats diff other teams are simply better not because NRG is making a mistake
