GROUP A:
RNG > JDG (2-0)

  • RNG have been in great form taking down the likes of Tyloo very convincingly.
  • JDG have improved with the acquisition of S1mon, jNwOw and Vici but I feel like JDG still need some more time to mesh together
  • If Swerl continues to play like he did in the qualifiers... this could be a blood bath.

BLG > NIP (2-1)

  • A tough matchup with BLG being slightly out of form and NIP looking red hot.
  • It feels like BLG should win this with their player quality and experience, not sure what happened with yosemite in EVO 1 but he's back now.
  • NIP can not be ruled out though, this should be very close matchup.

Group B:

4AM > TYLOO (2-1)

  • Tyloo has looked a shell of their former selves in this tournament, a 0-2 exit in EVO 1 and now a humiliating loss to RNG. This would be the perfect game to bounce back.
  • 4AM has called in the big guns, bringing in banger+udotan (4/6 players from Gwangju Shadow are now in china) and WsLeo.
  • This will be a close matchup but I have 4AM edging it based on the teams trajectory

ASE > DRG (2-0)

  • Ase are looking to get straight back into the main event after a 6th placed finish in EVO 1.
  • DRG are steadily improving after picking up YuChEn, former FPX player. Vo0kashu has been playing out of his skin.
  • I still think ASE takes this one in 2-0 fashion but I'd expect both maps to be competitive.

Preds so far:
Results: 3/4
Score: 2/4

GROUP A:
BLG > RNG (2-0)

  • bilibili have slowly fixed their issues and had a clean 2-0 over NIP.
  • RNG looked shaky versus RNG, requiring a 2-10 comeback on ascent to win map 1.
  • I'd expect both maps to be close, with each team possessing very talented duelists.

NIP > JDG (2-1)

  • Both teams need to bounce back quickly if they have any hope of progressing to the main event.
  • For NIP Spring was a bright point in their last map, constantly having multikill rounds.
  • JDG will need to rely on Vici successfully closing rounds like he did in the first half of ascent versus RNG, they would need their whole team to chip in with rounds to upset NIP here.

GROUP B:
ASE > TYLOO (2-0)

  • Yuicaw has been a rejuvenating pick up for an already strong ASE team as they look to secure another chance in the main event.
  • ASE has yet to drop a map in these qualifiers and I see this continuing here.

DRG > 4AM (2-1)

  • Honestly, a very close series on paper.
  • Both teams benefitting heavily from imports, yet both lacking some of that structure and stability needed to take down top teams.
  • Lotus+Breeze very likely to be played here, which has be favouring DRG.

Preds so far:
Result predictions: 7/8
Score predictions: 5/8

Group A:
RNG > NIP (2-1)

  • Making the main event would be hugely successful for both teams.
  • NIP have been surprising me with their comps, playing a lot of "off meta picks".
  • RNG is a team that is prone to a slow start, once they get the ball rolling though ... they are scary.
  • Should be a competitive series with both teams trading blows, however I think swerl might be too much for NIP to handle.

Group B:
TYLOO > DRG (2-0)

  • Tyloo has been slowly restoring their competitiveness during the last few games. A 26-18 loss versus ASE is not as bad as it seems.
  • DRG scraped past 4am in the elimination series, requiring an overtime win on map 3 to get the job done.
  • Unless Tyloo collapses, this should be a 2-0.

Final results:
Result predictions: 9/10
Score predictions: 7/10

Quite predictable.

Group A:

  1. BLG: Looking a lot more comfortable now that yosemite is back. Not sure what happened vs DRG in the open quals but they seemed to have bounced back.
  2. RNG: Guang +hato have been good upgrades. RNG has been so close to making a nice run, so to see them in the main event is nice.
  3. NIP: A interesting team, spring is way too good. Still think they are missing that extra something to progress further.
  4. JDG: Unsurprisingly finished 4th in their group. Pretty new roster, EVO 3 will be a better showing of what they can do.

Group B:

  1. ASE: They were always going to make it out of the group. In evo 1 they got unlucky with seeding facing RA/EDG in their two matches, they will be hoping to do better.
  2. Tyloo: Just your usual tyloo performance really. Good enough to comfortable beat the weaker teams, yet not strong enough to contest the top teams.
  3. DRG: A successful run. It's actually a very nice roster. maizi is under rated. vo0kashu can be unstoppable at times. Tvirus is solid. nicc and yuchen are solid support players. I can see DRG repeating this run in EVO 3.
  4. 4AM: After just importing two players in, making the playins and being somewhat competitive is a good result.
