Kohli is fantastic but to call him the Goat is a joke.
Hes not even the best of our generation, but he is prob the most complete player in all 3 formats.
But hes never really won anything.
Tendulkar was twice the player he was. You are also looking at players who play on the flattest of wickets with helmets compared to players like Botham, Sobers, Richards.

Id take any of the following on my side over Kohli.
Kallis
Tendulkar
Lara
Smith
De Villiers
Root
Stokes
Sangakkara
Ponting
Waugh
Richards

Kohli is immediately better than 90% of this list and you could easily argue for his position in the top.

People who say Kohli isn't the best of the best are just delusional. Man is ranked highest on so many metrics its just insane. Tendulkar looks good on records because he has played so many matches. Kohli is breaking all those records as his career progresses.

#47

Tbf Tendulkar is also rated so high because of his longevity, it's nearly impossible to have the kind of career that he did. Not to mention his style of play in ODIs back in those days was revolutionising

#48
SnooTangerines

but his playstyle was very selfish as well. I remember India lost most matches he played a good inning in.

He definitely had a huge advantage playing since 16 years to overextending his career beyond the 2011 world cup. That padded his stats like most centuries and stuff a lot.

Has he won matches like Dhoni or Kohli has? Barely.

what do you mean, Kohli flops when it matters, and has never won anything.

if you are on about people winning things and standing up when it counts. Doesnt even come close to someone like Ben Stokes.

Kohli and Dhoni have won the ODI world cup, Champions Trophy, and have consistently been the top 3 teams in the world for so many years. The performances in other world cups was not too bad either.

If you ever watched cricket during 2018 you would know how dominant Virat Kohli is. Compare this to Sachin.

Yes, Ponting was a much better captain but I doubt we are talking about captaincy here. We are talking about batsmanship. The rest just played during a time cricket had much less competition. Any of these cricketers from the 1990s would probably get thrashed with the standards of athletics today. The average performance has increased steadily over the years.

Just seeing names like Sangakkara in your list makes it lose all credibility. In the Sri Lankan scene, he was a god. But for the rest of the world, he was a top-tier player at his time nothing more.

Sangakarras average was higher in test cricket than Kohlis no? Considering you are talking about stats.
1 year doesnt make a player if so Joe Root would be the best player in the world right now, however he isnt.

Btw im a paid semi professional cricketer so to say my list has no credibility is outrageous, im just not looking at things from a bias like you indian boys.

paid semi-professional cricketer

So are thousands in so many parts of the world? How does that make you any more credible? Ranji Trophy alone has 38 teams with 15-16 players. That's 600 full-time decent players in the top-tier Indian scene alone. And you are semi-professional. There are nearly 3 million players registered in various cricket clubs and teams in India. Mumbai alone has 3000 people playing for various cricket clubs and teams full-time. If you are gonna put this up as an argument at least mention what level you are playing at.

im just not looking at things from a bias like you indian boys.

Sure

Sangakarras average was higher in test cricket than Kohlis no?

Cherry-picking stats are we? Could we talk about Sangakarra's ODI and T20 averages as well? You are comparing Sangakarra's best format to Kohli's worst format. And even then Kohli is not much behind him still making it into the top player's list. Definitely not a "biased" argument.

Also, remind me exactly how many lost matches have people on your list recovered single-handedly? Kohli and even Dhoni have several dozen matches like you saw today. Even the 2011 world cup finals were only possible since Kohli managed to stabilize the batting lineup when Malinga was just destroying it from the other side.

That entire statement is why cricket will die. Test cricket is and always will be the hardest and best form of the game.
The fact that you are openly admitting that its "Kohli's worst format" completely contradicts his "GOAT" status?

White ball cricket is an art form, but its easy to be an artist in that format when the ball doesnt move an inch.
Many a player has proven this, Jason Roy scored runs for fun, then got the chance to play in the ashes, ball started moving around corners and the guy couldnt buy a run.

If you want stats, Kohlis inflated average is 61 i believe in the sub continent where pitches are low and slow. Anywhere else in the world he averages 40, which by all means isnt bad, it however makes him average!

Kohli's worst format

It's Kohli's worst format but he is still in the top-performing players of all time along with some of the best test cricket players. Players from around the world have higher averages on South Asian pitches. Is it Kohli's fault that he was born in India and had to play 50% of his matches in the home grounds of India?

That entire statement is why cricket will die. Test cricket is and always will be the hardest and best form of the game.

Bro is out of touch with reality. Test cricket is what is killing cricket. Nobody has the time to watch a 5 day long game except unemployed people. Most employed people with jobs/students cannot afford to watch a match longer than 2-3 hours long.
Players can play all they want in empty stadiums and with 0 TV viewership. Nobody cares for an art form barely anyone can enjoy. Especially not ICC or the respective cricket boards of the countries involved.

Sure, playing long innings is tough in test format, but so is playing explosively in T20. Pujara used to be one of the best test players India has to offer but he barely plays in T20, what is the reason? He cannot play in high-pressure situations which you saw today.

Hitting boundaries and consecutive sixes on demand is not easy either. You could argue it's another form of art.

Some people cannot play test cricket some people cannot play T20. Guess who can play all of these competitively?

Modern formats like T20 is the only reason cricket is still relevant. I would not be surprised if test cricket would be gone altogether in the next 10 years. Nobody except unexplored cricket fnatics watch that stuff after all. It has a historical value and a different set of skills required to play it. Other than that, there is no need to romanticize test cricket. T20 also has a different skill set required to play and is much more suited for a more modern audience.
