Team Liquid and purp0's split comes just over a week after the team's decision to bench him for 18-year-old prospect GSR ahead of Champions Shanghai. The decision has not been without criticism, with purp0 himself saying that he "deserves to play at Champions Shanghai".

The decision to bench purp0, one of two Liquid Duelist players, may have been made to open pathways for Liquid to use different comps. purp0's best play this year has come on Jett, the agent he has played the most throughout his career.

After spending the past few years on different rosters, it looked as though the 2026 season with Liquid would be purp0's first full season with one team. Since making his debut in 2020, purp0's nine-month run as a starter on Liquid was his second-longest with any team in his career.
