I’m working on my doctorate rn, and do not have as much time to play competitive games. The issue with is, is that I’m washed. I have never ever enjoyed single player games and struggle to get into them (maybe because I crave constant competition).

What are single player games that will get me to love single player games?

I probably won’t respond much on this thread, but I will read all of them and accumulate a list of top options.

Depends on what genres you’d like, because there’s just a ton of variety. I’d recommend trying some stuff out and seeing what you like first.

Dark Souls 3 (or 1), Dishonored, The last of us are all good choices you could start with. If you like turnbased RPGS, persona 5 is a good shout.

You also have games like hollow knight (and its sequel, silksong, but I wouldn’t recommend playing it unless you like the first game)

Original dead space is also good. Most important thing is just to try some out to see what aspects work and don’t work for you personally

Persona 3 (if you don’t mind length) and Undertale (if you want something shorter) are among them

As someone who's played many, many single-player RPGs:

Hollow Knight is the greatest game I've ever played

I had fallen in love with Ghostrunner when I played it during a burnt out period of my life.

I think its a good transition from competitive games too, the game is fast paced and the story is baked into voice comms as you are zoominmg around slashing people.

Hey im lowkey confused with rain world, what should i be working towards? Should I be just getting food and going back to the same spot every day and just making the dot map go up, should I be exploring and plotting a map and hunting for “better” foods? Should I be trying to progress by finding new shelters

I’m like 3 hours in btw, I have the survivor, but I still don’t know the gameplay loop yet

Do a hell ton of exploration and farm karma lwk. Exploration is the whole core of the game and how you progress all around, due to how big the game is (To keep up with its philosophy of making you feel as part of the environment and not as a main character) it might be hard to get to new areas but eventually u'll get there (there are also web pages that show u the map layouts of different areas but i think that, that ruins the fun of the game) Also, seriously seriously, improve ur movement, u WILL need that movement knowledge as u progress throughout the game. Try and not die as much as possible to help with farming karma to access the new areas and always have a rock and a spear with u.

Okay, so the main goal is exploration over karma? Because it really feels like they are in opposition of eachother

It's more like having a balance between each other, Exploration leads u to ways of gaining karma (eating, echoes, etc) and karma lets u unlock more exploration.

Also if u want to see the full extension of the sluggies, get the DLC, those are the most fun imo.

Yes! It's my 3rd favorite FromSoftware game and would make my Top 10 all time. Tbh I recommend every FromSoftware soulsborne game (even Dark Souls 2).

I really enjoyed Hue. If you're looking for something you can play for a looooong time, though, feel free to give Football Manager a shot
