that qualified them for Toronto, this match was a breath of fresh air for G2. They had “not too much nerves, [since they] already qualified,” said
valyn
after the match, in stark contrast to the very emotional interview he gave after qualifying to Toronto a day earlier.
While the pressure was off of G2, MIBR was anything but an easy opponent. These teams played a very close game earlier in Stage 1, where G2 came out on top. Much like then, today's match was incredibly competitive, with both teams neck and neck the whole time.
The first three maps in particular were anyone's to take the whole way through. MIBR won the first map Haven 13-10, but G2 responded by winning Lotus 16-14 and then Split 13-10.
The difference makers today for G2 were leaf , trent , and the Stinger. leaf put up an MVP performance with 87 kills across the four maps, and trent continued to be a constant nuisance on Tejo. He currently sits as the highest rated player of the playoffs, consistently clutching out rounds for G2.
aspas was also stellar today, but wasn't enough to find the win.The real MVP of the day, however, was G2's low-buys. The same factor that won them their matches against 100T and EG once again defined today's match. Whenever MIBR had the chance to push a lead forward, G2 would always pull out a round from economic disadvantage, bringing their opponents' momentum to a halt.
valyn instills judgement on MIBR.This was crucially relevant on the final map of Ascent, where their attack side was fueled by clutches and thrifties. Primarily leaning on the strength of their defense, G2 only needed a few rounds on the attack. They managed to find six of them through the power of their pistols and Stingers.
G2 are going to get this gun nerfed.Once on the defense half, G2 securely closed out the game 13-8 to win the match and eliminate MIBR.
As was the case in Kickoff, MIBR have been eliminated in third place. This time, however, third is enough to take MIBR to their first ever Masters event. As the third seed, they will have to fight their way through the Swiss Stage.
Again mirroring Kickoff, the grand final will pit G2 against Sentinels, a matchup that has been the defining rivalry of Americas in 2025. Sentinels look to even up the score, while G2 are gunning for their second trophy of the year.
Americas Stage 1 will conclude tomorrow with the grand final, as well as the Stage 2 group draw.
