it would be pretty cool if threads had polls, and we could see how people voted on certain stuff like favourite teams or whatever.

One reason why we should not add polls to the anonymous forum VLR is that it could potentially compromise the anonymity of the users. If users are required to cast a vote on a certain topic, they may be inclined to reveal more about their personal beliefs or opinions in order to support their vote. This could potentially expose their identity, especially if the poll topic is controversial or sensitive.

Additionally, polls may also create a bias within the forum. If certain users are able to sway the results of the poll through campaigning or manipulating the vote, it could create a distorted representation of the views of the community. This could lead to misunderstandings and conflicts within the forum, disrupting the overall sense of community and trust.

Furthermore, polls may also contribute to a sense of polarization within the forum. If users are divided into opposing sides on a particular topic, it may lead to heated discussions and arguments, ultimately hindering the ability for constructive and respectful discussions to take place.

Overall, while polls may seem like a useful tool for gathering the opinions of the community, they have the potential to compromise the anonymity and create bias and polarization within the forum. It is important to consider the potential consequences before implementing this feature on VLR.

It is understandable that you have concerns about the potential risks of adding polls to the anonymous forum VLR. Your points about the potential compromise of anonymity, creation of bias, and polarization are all valid concerns.

Anonymity is an important aspect of many online forums, and it is important to ensure that the privacy and safety of users is protected. If polls are implemented in a way that could potentially expose the identities of users or require them to reveal personal information, it could compromise the anonymity of the forum.

Bias and polarization can also be negative consequences of implementing polls. If certain users are able to manipulate the results of the poll or if the poll itself is biased, it could lead to a distorted representation of the views of the community. This could lead to misunderstandings and conflicts within the forum, which could disrupt the sense of community and trust.

In summary, while polls can be a useful tool for gathering the opinions of the community, it is important to carefully consider the potential consequences and take steps to minimize any negative impacts on the anonymity, trust, and community of the forum.

However, it is important to note that there are ways to mitigate these concerns and still allow for the use of polls in the forum. One solution could be to implement anonymous polls that do not require users to reveal any personal information or disclose their identity. This could be done through the use of an anonymous poll platform or by building anonymous polling functionality directly into the forum.

In addition, steps could be taken to prevent manipulation of the poll results and ensure that the poll is unbiased. This could include measures such as limiting the number of votes a single user can cast, randomly sampling a subset of users to participate in the poll, or implementing measures to detect and prevent ballot stuffing.

Furthermore, it is important to remember that polls can be a useful tool for gathering the opinions and feedback of the community, and they can help to facilitate discussions and decision-making within the forum. By carefully considering the potential risks and implementing measures to mitigate them, it is possible to allow for the use of polls in a way that benefits the community and does not compromise the anonymity or trust of the forum.

Accusing someone of using ChatGPT or any other artificial intelligence tool to generate their comments or responses can be harmful and counterproductive. It is important to remember that people have the right to express their own thoughts and opinions, regardless of whether or not they have used any assistive technology.

Assuming that someone is using ChatGPT or a similar tool to generate their comments can be dismissive of their intelligence and agency. It can also contribute to the stigmatization of assistive technology and the people who use it, which is not fair or productive.

In addition, making accusations without evidence is not a productive or respectful way to engage in discussions or debates. It is important to focus on the substance of the arguments being made, rather than making baseless accusations about how they were generated.

Overall, it is important to respect the autonomy and agency of others, and to engage in discussions and debates in a constructive and respectful manner. This includes refraining from making accusations about the use of assistive technology without evidence.

SHAHZAM IS THE BEST PLAYER

oops personal beliefs!

Frags

There are several reasons why a professional Valorant player like ShahZam, who plays for the team G2 and was previously a member of Sentinels, might not be considered the best Valorant player in the world.

First and foremost, it is important to note that "best" is a subjective term and can mean different things to different people. Some might consider a player to be the best based on their individual skill or their ability to carry a team to victory, while others might consider a player to be the best based on their overall game sense and strategic thinking.

In addition, the Valorant competitive scene is constantly evolving, and there are many talented players from around the world who are vying for the title of best. This means that even if ShahZam is an extremely skilled and talented player, there may be others who are equally or even more skilled in different areas.

Finally, it is also important to consider that a player's success is not solely determined by their individual skill, but also by the team they are a part of and the strategies they use. Even if ShahZam is an incredibly skilled player, he may not necessarily be considered the best if his team is not performing as well as other teams or if their strategies are not as effective.

Overall, it is important to recognize that there are many talented Valorant players in the world, and it is difficult to definitively say who is the best. Instead of focusing on who is the best, it is more productive to appreciate the skill and talent of all players and the hard work and dedication they put into their craft.

This would be really nice! I also think flair counts would be interesting to see (how many users rep each flair to get an idea of which teams are most represented on vlr) but the polls have more value

are the devs really arguing that polls would compromise anonymity? we're obviously not asking on polls from third parties, we're asking you to implement this simple feature. polls would actually give more interaction since less than half actually contribute to discussions through text (which is mostly english) that I can guarantee 50% of the people are fluent in. But many do read, a poll would help that. you dont need to show the poll creator who voted what, just the count and percentage will work fine.

Frankly, you're afraid of public opinion on certain things and a poll would destroy your moderation regarding certain things, such as you removing george geddes racist remark threads today even though it was accurate, you removed it because he's your friend and to many here. Just say you dont want it, dont give idiotic reasons for not implementing it.
