he has 2 bullets, shoots them into smoke and what you see is the reload animation

if you see closely, when he spams on top of bricks he had 6 bullets, he spammed 4 and had 2 left in the mag. right before he goes in for the knife, you can hear 2 shots being fired from bricks. those 2 were his last bullets. he only had the option to knife or reload after giving away his position. unlucky.
