16 teams swiss, pls do it at istanbul
what is swiss format?
It's like a CS major
They start off with large groups and eliminate teams that dont get "X" amount of wins in these groups
In CS it's 3 wins
Once a team get 3 wins they move on to either playoffs or another swiss groups stage
The remaining teams face each other off with no rematches until teams either get to 3 wins or cant because of their standings
I feel like i mightve explained it horribly so heres a wiki page
Ive been saying its shit, and only when the teams people like get fucked people want to change it
like before optic lost to xset, and nip lost to kru, people were saying this format is fine LMFAO
Swiss would solve the problem with the seeding really well, as we go into a more competitive all around regions. When teams are obligated to groups you might get weaker teams into the playoffs, it really sucks for fans and teams. Lets give an example in the worst position by my experience. KRU who has qualified for 5 LANs, they have gotten these team in order.
M2 Iceland 2021 First Round Fnatic with the only format without group stage. Noone knew who was better at this time, but they got the runner up. Unlucky .
M3 Berlin 2021 his group had ZETA DIVISION, KEYD STARS (BOTH weaker teams at that time) and Envy who made a run for 2place. Lucky group.
Champions 2021 They get Sentinels (in downfall but still a tier 1 team at that time.) Liquid who was a top contender as they went to get a top 4, and finally FURIA (that had a tight game with Sentinels, but still a BR team who at that time were not seen as a top region). Really hard group. Unlucky really, but they went to play and got 2nd seed into playing again Fnatic(who went 2-0 in a hard group), and then Gambit, who were seen as the best in the world.
M1 Iceland 2022 they again get Liquid, Xerxia and Optic, with the last taking the tournament, and a strong XERXIA who beat FNS and the boys, while getting for the Third time the KRU kriptonite, Team Liquid.
Now with M2 Copenhagen we get Optic, LOUD and Guild, who are all contenders for top 1. What a fucking shitshow, while we get to see NTH, XERXIA and DRX fight eachother.
Asian teams know eachother as well as BR teams with LATAM, so its a shame that your games that mean so much are jeopardized to an extent for bad seeding system that does not consider the level scale difference. It will improve as well for getting first seed for playoffs, only for the opening map is perfectly balanced. I think with the current format, we dont get different matchups, as rematches in group stage are not ok on unbalanced groups. The only reasoning for not using Swiss is staying in the confort zone, and the classic riot yearly plan where u get alot of problems in the middle of competition (no in-ears, bad sound in 2021 previous to Champs, and bad formatting all around for single elim playoffs prev to 2022 , and 1st seed problem for 2022, as well as 16 teams gone). Also the only reasoning for this groups is the time slots for the audience. I dont think this is the best for the competitive aspect so i always expect the worst with riot, while also thinking they get better but really slow, and not getting theyr head on the important side of things (good hotel, and a good show as content creation all around).
TLDW Group stage does not consider well the seeding system as we get unbalanced teams skillwise. Swiss better all around for the competition side and the different region clash. KRU example as unbalanced groups while analizing that they got fucked 4 times and lucky 1, with their matchups (Liquid 3 times, Fnatic 2, 2 Optic, etc). Riot bad managment for format and really slow getting better at the basic things (inears, sound, better pcs for prac, double elim playoff and seeding)
