What's the most mainstream most popular anime out there. I don't care if it's good, it just has to be well known.

Edit : so from the replies I reckon attack on titan is the most popular. Will start with it, followed by spyx family. Feel free if y'all have any more suggestions Thanks !!

I never liked anime but turns out this girl I like at work, loves watching anime. We sat together in the cafe over lunch today and anime came up. I couldn't speak 1 word about it until the group moved on from the topic. I want something that's not work-related that I can start a conversation with.

Most mainsream anime at the moment would probably be Demon Slayer (pretty much everyone watched it during Quarantine nonanime watchers and anime watchers alike). Oh yeah I forgot, Attack on Titan is something that is universally watched at the moment.

In history? Probably something along the lines of Dragon Ball, Naruto, One Piece, pokemon, or even something like Sailor Moon.

If you want like well known Attack On Titan should be the one. Demon Slayer's quite hot right now, Then you can go like Dragon Ball One Piece Naruto Bleach. I would recomment like not watching One Piece cause it's damn long although it's awesome( My fav anime ). So if you like wanna chill watch some hardcore action and brutal battles watch DBZ, you want more emotions storyline go for Naruto.

I wouldnt really rec new anime fans to watch the big 3 that early in tbh cuz new gens shonens outshine them in almost every aspect, especially in pacing since i feel like ppl wont have the patience to watch even 100 eps

surprisingly no one mentioned hunter x hunter. one of the best anime i've ever watched. it's consistently good. no cringe anime waifus. no unrealistic plot holes. good stuff. 9/10 on imdb

edit: this is probably a hot take but i think spy x family is overrated. it's good, but not "that good"

SpyxFamily is one of the seasonal anime that everyone gets hyped about.

Ofc people are hyping it up. It is one of the best wholesome comedy show that has come out in a while.

Moreover, you are comparing like 12 eps of SpyxFamiily to 100+ eps of HunterxHunter. HunterxHunter was not even that good for the first 12 eps.
We have not even scratched the surface of what might be possible with a plot like SpyxFamily.

Look at Kaguya Sama, it was a great show from S1 and S2 and S3 just made it one of the best if not the best romantic comedy there exists.

You can check MAL (MyAnimeList) and look at the higher rated shows there, over 9 star rating there means it is generally good. Whether its mainstream or not, u need to research about it abit more. My recs are FMA, Code Geass for bit of action/drama and if u want to be happy watch My Lie in April

Watch "Your Name."
Its a movie, so itll be like an hour and youre done
but its one of if not the best movie ive ever seen. 100% my favorite anime ever, and its like top 10 all time or something on MAL

As for TV anime, id suggest starting with basics/well known anime that have a good rep. Full Metal Alchemist, Kaguya-sama, SPYxFamily, Konosuba!, Demon Slayer, etc. For someone trying to get into anime, watch stuff that avid watchers would consider "normie" stuff because "normie" means mainstream, well written, likable characters, etc.
If you want a whole list of my favorite anime from when I started, I'll make one.

(also watch Charlotte. Not super well known but DAMN it goes hard.)
