I don't get why people are so pissed when we get called "low skill ceiling". I actually find it BETTER for the game to be in general easier to be good at and I wish it stays this way, here's why:

  • Lower skill ceiling allows weaker regions to have a shot at winning something, for instance South America/Asian FPS scene is revived because of valorant
  • Lower skill ceiling makes the game more approachable to the general public instead of hardcore aim practice 24/7 to become half decent at the game
  • Lower skill ceiling helps with the streaming community because even streamers without much FPS experience can still find the game enjoyable and not switching game easily due to frustration

Mechanical ceiling is lower is good for wide casual appeal. It's been the case wirh every riot game they follow the philosophy of easy to play and challenging to master. At pro level game is much more team based. This is the valorant vs csgo is the same argument as league vs Dota. Valorant still a new esports. There are crack 15 - 16 year Olds that haven't even been in the pro scene. This year we seeing more and more talents as roster are changing up.

This is an iron take right here. there isn't a "low skill ceiling in valorant"
you still need megamind strats to win games, in fact, with val's abilities (not in cs), one could argue it's extremely difficult

skill ceiling ususally refers to mechanical skills, not strategical depth

Ok but also let's just say that the "skill" part is purely mechanical. I think Valorant's agent and ability combos makes it a lot more tactically dense, which'll help it's long term viability.

no, this is braindead take

FPS in Asian is revived because RITO care about Asian scene (giving spot to master/champs, making the vct official, etc)
valve literally didn't care to Asian viewers/growth on the esport scene

yeah in a way you're right, especially considering that asian players, for example, actually shine for being cracked af (f0rsaken, laz, etc.) it feels like a higher mechanical cieling would actually favor them in a way

Low skill ceiling = more people can enjoy it even someone that not really a gamer can enjoy it. (some artists that unlikely have much experince on fps game and really really busy enjoy it like Zedd, keshi, eaJ, Corpse, etc)

High skill ceiling = only certain people can enjoy it because they need to pour their time, brain, energy, and soul to that game to be good at it.

If riot really decide to make the skill ceiling higher in valorant, valorant will definitely lose many casual players that just play for fun after work/schools and don't have many time to aim training, and other fps fundamentals training.

well not really, it makes the amazing players not get as much fun, you are only focusing on it impacting the bad players

I think you are mistaken by using skill celling and skill floor. This game has a very low skill floor, but a pretty good skill celling around team play and map control and executes and lurking and timing. This makes it so the game is accesible but also it makes higher level of play fun to watch.

This is quite true tho no average player wants to play deathmatch or aimbotz for 3 hours just to still get destroyed in the game like in cs
