was combining major regions a mistake?

There's a reason why Tier 1 slots in Americas are so hard to obtain, NA and LATAM Tier 2 talent are trying to squeeze into one of the very limited 11 teams whereas EMEA and China don't have to worry about that issue when all of their players are from the same region.

This sorta problem will also soon hit the Pacific as well given that the game is growing in their countries that are brimmed with popularity and more importantly, esports culture. A quick example to that would be Korea, like how does Riot expect them to be immersed competitively in the same way as LoL in the future when they only have three official teams supporting their country?

This shit feels like an easy recipe for failure no matter how you look at it if we're assuming Valorant's going to be as successful as CSGO or LoL down the line.

no way do you distribute east asia and asia pacific and then give each of them same slots as emea.

emea has won 5 trohpies, apac has 0. no way you can justify 2 slots each for emea asia pac and east asia

With this logic LoL should be all LPL and LCK

two things are considered the size of the playerbase and actual competetiveness. not that familiar with lol but i think lpl and lck are seeded slightly better or have one extra spot over lcs. and if not that example, they definitely have more slots than the brazilian, japanese and vietnamese regions.

i am not asking to shrink the current pacific's 4 slots at champs. i am saying that if the current pacific is broken into 2 different regions, then that 4 should break up to 2 and 2.

That's the most stupidest example when it comes to Pacific. Korea with 3/10 teams is already overly represented when it's comes to Val they have like 16% of the Pacific player base

Meanwhile there were so many good full indo teams before franchising now there's none

i looked at it as smth down the line idk what you're so pressed about, im trying to show that this issue is something that's both current or inevitable depending on the region.

Korea is not the problem. All their team are competitive so clearly they deserve the 3 teams slot.

Japan otoh have no business having 2 slots. That dfm slot should have been given to Bleed instead.

For indo the problem is Riot picked RRQ who kept some of their tier 2 players. If they picked boom then most t1 deserving indo player would be in franchising. There's like 3 full good indo teams iirc boom, onic and AE. And onic and AE are more tier 1.5.

But in hindsight, considering GE ended up playing with only 1 Indian and still end up a disappointment maybe that slot should have been give to Onic instead

Riot picking RRQ as indonesia's representative is honestly quiet weird. because the whole 2022 was RRQ playing with full philipines team and all of the sudden they got the slot for Franchise as indonesia's representative and decided to do the funniest thing before getting bashed by the whole community and then straight up picking indo player... if it were onic or boom who literally are the grand finalist of 2022 LCQ, it would make more sense

sorta?
Rn its definitely horrible for NA specifically since you had to condense a competitive region into so few slots
Just look at that lcq https://www.vlr.gg/event/1130/champions-tour-north-america-last-chance-qualifier/main-event right before franchising, all teams were at least somewhat competitive for the 3rd slot.
But as franchise continues the team slots do increase, so I don't actually see this being a problem in the long term
using the snapshot of NA t2 from last year only really TGD and M80 were really t1 ready, so the proper team count isnt too far off and this should get better over time
... that is as long as t2 stays healthy, and t1 can actually be the place for the established and proven talent - Americas t1 does not have space to develop talent outside of tier 2.

EMEA is in a bit of a different spot where you actually have the slots to make a team of 3 t2 players who youre gonna try and develop for future season (but luckily to balance things out we have our own t2 problems due to an (imo) absolute trash format)
And Pacific is just weird? Language just makes stuff hard for them. So while I think theres a ton of spots up for grabs for t2 talent, the pool of t2 talent to actually fill said slots is limited per team, thanks to not every team/player being comfortable with the same language. And for the fun of it they also have a (imo) bad t2 system.

idk about pacific but SA and NA should be split

i feel like something similar should happen in pacific too
Disband CN league and Pacific league
Introduce East Asia league - KR JP CN - Seoul
APAC league - SA IN MY/SG PH TH HK VN OCE - Singapore

disband Americas League
introduce NA league - Los Angeles
introduce latam league - BR LAN LAS - Sao Paolo

EMEA league is fine i think

This way we have 5 leagues
Each league sends 3 to international tournament (15) and one slot from a Play-in tournament (16)

As a viewer i really liked americas region, but that killed the brazilian t2 scene, only 3 of 10 t2 team remains on vct regional 2024
